They just copy and paste that from every version. Facebook is too lazy to actually write what the changes are. It took me a while to discover that they added the ability to change the colors of text bubbles.
Actually, this has been a feature since the previous update, also the ability to pick nicknames for people in individual conversations.
It's possible that different people have had this feature show up at different times given that Facebook and various other services are known to do various bucket or A/B testing for features and also to roll features out in phases as well. Something like that can also likely be one of the reasons why they don't specifically identify some features in release notes as not everyone might have access to them at the same time.
