One third party app I would love to see by Car Play is Facebook messenger.

As I drive and get Facebook Messenger messages they are sent to my Apple Watch, for safety sake I would like to have them read by Car Play and I would like to reply to them like I can for iMessages.

Would anyone else like to see this feature come to Carplay?

Absolutely not! No message apps should be allowed when driving.
I was partly being snarky with my previous post (I disdain FB for a variety of reasons), but on the surface, a messaging app is a messaging app, whether it's FB Messenger or iMessage (or Kakao Talk or Weibo, etc).

I suspect that there's some extra permissions that Apple doesn't want to let third-parties access via CarPlay. On the navigation side, Waze and Google Maps aren't available, either.

For now, I'd say that the workaround would be to make your FB friends into your real-life friends who will willingly give their real-life phone numbers.

[doublepost=1556391157][/doublepost]Hi Scott, I too would like to receive text messages from Facebook messenger. Have you learned any more since the posting of this question last year? Jeff

Old post i know but for what it's worth I can already send\receives messages via the standard messaging app over Carplay using Siri. Message comes in and i ask Siri to read it then i can reply or not using Siri. Used it loads and its always worked pretty well for me. No different in reality to having a phone call over handsfree.

Not sure if using Siri is an option for other messaging apps already?

The technology is great but I still believe that no messaging apps should be allowed when driving. The distraction is too great.

But the way it works via Carplay is no different to making a hands free phone call? At no point via Carplay is the message or a list of messages shown on the screen. Its read out via Siri and opening the message app on Carplay just shows a list of contacts based on when a message was last received which is more or less identical to the list shown by opening the phone app in Carplay.

I will try it later today, but as I typically don’t use Siri it will be new to me. Just to clarify your comment, when I hear a new message come in on FB messenger, I can ask Siri to read it, through CarPlay? Thanks, Jeff

Siri works with the standard iPhone messaging app, i've no idea if it works with Messenger or not as i said at the end of my original post but its worth giving it a go to see if Siri can do it. You could test without it being plugged into Carplay really....that should make no difference in testing it. Siri will either be able to do it or not do it.

As I frequently transport rescue animals from my state into another state, using the freeway and all communications between rescue transport coordinators and transport drivers are done via Messenger, having a way to communicate by Facebook Messenger is a must for me. Places to pull off the freeway to use Messenger are few and far between so every time I drive on a rescue transport, I lament the fact that Apple Carplay doesn’t have the option of using Facebook Messenger. If Android can add Messenger to Android Auto, why can’t Apple include it on Apple Carplay? I am seriously thinking of going back to an Android phone just for this reason.
