I don't think this is iOS 6 specific, but for a while now, I get notifications for Facebook and Foursquare, but they do not make a sound or vibrate my phone (even though I have both set to ON). After doing a search, I read that many others are having this problem with Facebook as well. However, the newly updated Facebook Messenger seems to be working ok (it will make a sound), but I don't know where to pick which sound it uses?

the sounds are app specific and you have no control over what sound it plays.

Ok, so that means something is just broken with the apps themselves since they aren't making any sound at all even though I'm getting the notification?

After upgrading my iPhone 4S to iOS 6 I've noticed that most of the time Skype fails to notify me of incoming messages at all when the phone is locked. No sound, no popup / banner. This worked without fail on iOS 5. Could be related?

if its the same problem as me its because there is a glitch in the OS.

The reason your sounds are not coming through loudly is because some reason they get connected to the media volume instead of the ringtone volume.

You can either do a soft reset

or

go into music app and turn the volume up full. send an ams to yourself to test.

No, my problem is not tied to any volume. The FB and Foursquare notifications just don't make a sound no matter what my volume levels are. My texts, calendar events, etc are make sound notifications just fine. From other places I've read, this was happening on iOS 5 not too long before iOS 6 hit, so something is either amiss with iOS itself or with the apps/API.

So you guys who are saying it's the volume level, are you getting SOUND from your notification if you get a FB notification (not from the Messenger app because that works, but from the FB app itself... or from Foursquare)???

I have an iphone 5. My volume is turned all the way, including in the media app. What i have noticed, and have said before. Is that the sound issue seems to be with anything facebook related, and social apps. Meaning facebook itself, instagram, foursquare etc. Any social apps that ask for you to login to facebook seems to not have sound. Anything else on the phone works fine.

Yes, that's sounds about right. I thought maybe it had something to do with the Facebook integration, but some of the threads I read elsewhere were from before iOS 6 hit. Seems like this has been an issue for several weeks (I got the iPhone 5 on launch day).

The fact that there's a bug does not bother me all that much. The fact that there doesn't seem to be any acknowledgement/awareness of it does bother me. I just want to know that it has been identified and worked on.

The update to Facebook Messenger that came out a couple of days ago does have sound when the notification goes off, but the Facebook app itself does not. And there was a Foursquare update today, but unfortunately there is still no sound with that app. So I don't know if it's clear whether this is something that the app developer has to fix or if it's something Apple has to fix?

i dont have a facebook app...but many of my texts go without an alert now...very frustrating...

I posted this in another thread but by any chance was anyone jailbroken and went back to stock when this happened? I am reading alot about other ppl in other forums who were jailbroken, went back to stock IOS. And their notifications stopped working. I mean IOS 5 like iphone 4 or 4s. What they were able to do is jailbreak their phones, tweak them. And either stay jailbroken. Or go back to stock. And their notifications for facebook work fine now. Even on IOS 6 when they upgraded their OS on their phone. It is interesting cause if you are able to jailbreak your phone, it seems like you are able to fix whatever is wrong. And go back to stock using ios 5 or ios 6, and get the notifications to work. But if you are someone like me, who bought an iphone 5, you cant jailbreak and tweak your phone. So i am wondering if anyone running ios 5 can jailbreak their phone, try to run what they say like push doctor or whatever it is. Go back to stock and see if that fixed it??

Mine also don't make sound. But they did in iOS 5.1.1, I know because I have a custom alert tone for it and I'd hear it frequently. Now they could have stopped a couple days/weeks prior to iOS 6 and I just didn't notice I'm not sure.

Another thing that bugs me is I just won't get the notifications at all. It won't be until I see the red circle on the app saying I have new notifications. I have to see I was expecting a bit more from fully integrated Facebook.

I honestly think that apples notifications has broken down, or been corrupted for certain users. But i would think there would be a simple fix for it. But apparently not. I guess it is something that apple has to reset on their end etc. Or if you are jailbroken, you can try some kind of push program that will push them properly to your phone. For me for example, there are so many apps that have problems. Plus i have issues with email and text notifications. It started on my 4s, and it carried over to my 5 when i received that.

Solution to iPhone eBuddy & Facebook alerts after iOS 6 update

I don't think this is iOS 6 specific, but for a while now, I get notifications for Facebook and Foursquare, but they do not make a sound or vibrate my phone (even though I have both set to ON). I solved the problem.
After updating my iPhone to iOS 6, I would no longer get alerts on eBuddy or Facebook app on my iPhone 4. I couldn't live like this, so something had to be done, and I figured it out.
So here is what you do..
Remove completely both the apps, and reinstall again ..
This should work.
If it doesn't, then after removing and reinstalling, go into settings, and in notifications, turn alerts off, then back on again.
Problem solved :)

I get notification sounds, however even though I select the 'Facebook sound' it still reverts to the default alert sound...the same for twitter - can't get the 'Tweet' alert to sound.

Tried that also, did not work. I even removed the apps. Restarted the phone. And then added the apps again. I would turn off alerts, restart the phone. And still nothing when i turn alerts on. Like i said it is frustrating that all my apps, text and email do not make any sounds.

the facebook sound under sound settings on iOS is for when you do a status update via notification centre or post a photo or link to FB from safari/photo gallery. nothing to do with the Facebook app.

Thanks, but this doesn't solve the sound problem. Your solution can work (and has worked in the past) for fixing the problem of not getting a notification at all. However, I am getting the notifications just fine... they just don't make any sound. My mail notification makes a sound, as well as texts and some other apps. But not matter what, Facebook and Foursquare do NOT make a sound even though the notification comes up and lights up the phone. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, etc.

This is on an iPhone 5 with a clean install.

I have the exact same issue. No clue why.

Some applications have either settings on the application itself or no settings at all.
Facebook Messenger apparently does not have settings for it's sound notification but I like it though. :D

My text sounds and email sounds have come back. But it is odd, some emails will play sound, some wont. Same for text, some text play sound, some do not. Last night i got a twitter notification with sound again. I still get no sound notifications from facebook, instagram, or foursquare. Just banners.

When I was still using my iPhone 4 over the last several months is when I started noticing this problem. And I've checked all my sounds and notifications in the app settings as well as the general settings and still couldn't figure this issue of not getting any sound notifications. I purchased 2 iPhone 5 about 3 weeks ago and I'm now having this same issue on it as well. But I did notice that before I synced my iTunes account with my 5 I was getting the sound notifications for Facebook and etc...... So my thinking is that there's an issue that's linked to random mobile accounts through Facebook app. Not sure. Anyone else put there found a solution to this problem yet??? Thanks
