I am currently a western expat living in the Middle East and the other day whilst in an Apple store, I saw two local ladies in full local national dress examine iPhones. One was wearing a Hijab (headscarf that covers hair), which I think Apple have stated is going to be fine with FaceID, but the other had a Niqab (headscarf plus face vail with eyes exposed). What have they said about FaceID in those circumstances?

Presumably the same factors have to be overcome in cold weather climates where people shield their faces from the cold?

I would suppose that the system is redundant for Muslims wearing a full Burka (face completely covered)? This seems to be a potential issue for Apple, female Muslim buyers would make up a large part of their target market in areas like this.

I haven’t seen the media pick up on this yet, but seems like an issue. The type of issue a super liberal, politically correct company like Apple would want to avoid?

Can’t comment on the Muslim part since I am not educated on those but FaceID is no different then TouchID and wearing gloves in the cold weather. TouchID doesn’t work with gloves so you either enter your passcode or take the glove off. FaceID will work with a winter hat at least, but obviously not a full face cover.
