Last year I got an iPhone X at launch. One of my biggest aggravations was using FaceID while mounted in my car. The angle that my mount was on would never unlock my phone (attention was off). I would have to move my head slightly up, looking really cool, to get my phone to unlock (when parked and not in motion!).
I reverted back to an iPhone 8 for many reasons and was happy to have my home button back.
This year I got the Max and have noticed that my FaceID experience in my car has been FLAWLESS. Same mount. Same angle. No issues. While mounted, my head is towards the lower half of where the camera picks up my face...just as it was last year. I'm not sure the exact reason why it's been so much better, but there's a clear, distinct difference from my previous iPhone X. My Max will also remain unlocked the entire time I'm driving, improving the usability of apps like Apple Music (my car doesn't have CarPlay).
Overall, my mounted iPhone driving experience has been nothing short of outstanding with the XS Max. One of my biggest gripes with FaceID has turned into one of its greatest strengths in year's time.
