Maybe I misunderstood the keynote, but FaceID was supposed to work at higher angles, like siting on a desk. But I don't see one bit of improvement, I still have to stare down from above when the iPhone is on a desk.

Yes. It always has.Does faceID use the selfie camera?
Does faceID use the selfie camera?
Same here. Works from more angles for me on iPhone 11.Yes. It always has.
For me, Face ID is way faster, and works at a lot more angles than before.

In my case, angles have improved. Before my phone would not unlock when mounted in the cradle on the dashboard in my car, had to punch in pin. Now it in unlocks with just FaceID. So maybe improvement of sensors is minor or maybe software improved, but in my case I notice improvment. The only thing mentioned is the speed increase. The angle bit was a made up expectation from some of the YouTube content creators.
Yeah, it’s still lacking that featureSo FaceID doesn’t work in landscape mode on any of the 11s?
No, it doesn't. Face ID uses the IR camera and the dot projector.Yes. It always has.

Yeah, I should have been more specific and said it uses the framework of the selfie cam, but not the lens itself. I was in a hurry and too glib.Selfie cam? No, face ID has never used the selfie cam
It uses a dot projector and infrared camera
Agree. It does seem to have more range, and maybe is a little faster than the speed given with just 13. It seems to detect something at higher angles, but always fails at the fringes. I need to be at about the same angle as before to get a match.Maybe I misunderstood the keynote, but FaceID was supposed to work at higher angles, like siting on a desk.
