I tried resetting Face ID, but then I get “Face ID is not available”. I also restarted my phone.

Anyone knows what is going on? I am on the latest OS.

This might be a hardware issue. I remember seeing it in the forums. I suggest you contact Apple directly.

Support confirmed it is a hardware issue indeed and needs to be repaired.

Do you know how long such a repair will take?

Tried removing the tempered glass?

I don't think that will help him/her. Face ID should work regardless if they have a tempered glass on their phone or not. OP, I suggest you either go to Apple or call (not sure if they're open in your area); especially since you're still in the 1-year warranty period. It seems like a hardware issue. Best of luck!

My tempered glass got old. Face ID stopped working. Changed the tempered glass, now Face ID is as good as new.

Generally they send a device out first and then you have to send your device out. I’d say a couple of days in normal circumstances. They’ll send you emails as it progresses through the process.
