Anyone have any idea how much 3G data is used to facetime???

I love the fact that i can now see my daughter any time i want from anywhere.....but if i get addicted to it and do it loads, i dont wanna be charged loads!!

Any ideas?

Try a test call..?? Log how much data before call and after call and duration of the call.

is the general usage thing always up to date though? And is there an easier app to be able to tell data usage? Cheers in advance!

I think that when the jailbreak was released for the iPhone 4 back in 2010, FaceTime's 3G data usage was around 3MB per minute. I'm not certain though

Does it count if say my wife is at home on the ipad (wifi) & calls my 4S (3G) would that use my data?

you're using your own 3G date regardless of what the other person uses. if someone calls you from a landline, you're still using your minutes right?

Ok, prob right about the 3G... But i think your wrong about the minutes. It doesnt use up your free mins if someone calls you...thats just silly

It just uses data. How much data, that I do not know.

Tom8 suggested 3mb/minute. Thats not too horrible if you use it once every couple of days. If you have a limited data plan I would be very careful using facetime over 3G that often.

i think in America it charges you even if you're the receiver......that really does suck if u ask me.....so probably it would use their minutes as well.....but not us :)

I am not sure how much but it is quite a lot...

my data usage is just web browsing and emails, some music streaming and the main chunk is in Facetime, averaging 1-2 hours with gf (US) and family (international) per day.

I don't use data to watch movies or youtube on regular basis...

and i still racked up as much as 5gb this month (got my throttle warning as well)...

so I think if you use it a lot, like me, it could add up! :)

Sorry, I didn't see where you were from. But in the US, on a typical plan, you use your minutes even if you are receiving a call.

Wow that really sucks. Does it matter if it's a landline or mobile phone or does the receiver use minutes for both?

someone could be calling from a payphone/sat phone/cell/landline and you're still using your minutes during peak.

Nonsense sounds right. Do you at least have offers like free AT&T to AT&T or sprint to spring etc?

Yes, at least that makes up for it.
Free AT&T to AT&T customers.
There's also some plans that have unlimited calling to any cellphone on any network etc...
But for the amount of money we pay here in the US for monthly plans with texts and data its still expensive.
A single line with around 500 minutes, unlimited texts and 2GB of data is over $100 per month with taxes.

I'm currently with 3 and paying €20 euro a month ($26) and I get free 3 to 3 calls anytime.
Free calls to any network on weekends.
Free texts to any network anytime.
Unlimited data including tethering.

None taken :p
I've actually noticed the 3G is slower than Vodafone.. I used to get constantly 2-4mb on Vodafone and now on 3 it's almost always below 2mb. If I'm not mistaken that's like third the speeds you guys get on 3G?
