Has it been announced how much longer we need to wait for the FaceTime API? or is there a way people can use it in their own apps already? Anybody have any information on this?

I'm wondering this too. I'm excited about the possibility for iPhone Skype-> Skype video calls.

not just that! imagine using openCV on the live stream to do all kinds of stuff with it... i just cant wait!!

How about messenger products (AOL, Yahoo, MSN) integrating it so that from your PC you simply click a contact, it connects to the iPhone.. and you video chat away.

(or does it need to have the phone connection first?)

good question... i think it needs to have a phone contact for the time being (looking at how Jobs first dialed a contact's number then clicked on the FaceTime button in the keynote. Also i read somewhere they use the phone number as some ID to get the streaming done, im not sure though).
