I've been testing various VOIP alternatives to Skype. Oddly enough, none of the others we tried — Facetime audio, Google Voice (via Hangouts), and Wire — seems to have controllable volume in iOS when I'm wearing headphones. I can move the slider all the way to the left or click the volume buttons, and they both do nothing. :(

This is frustrating because I notice Facetime audio quality is pretty great and realistic-sounding. Is this an acknowledged issue or is there a decent workaround/fix? I have seen others post of this problem before but haven't found a conclusive answer.

This does not seem to be limited to a specific model of iPad, it happens on at least an iPad mini 2 and iPad 3.

Thanks for any insight.
