my 2.7GHz iMac 2011 sometimes cannot detect my facetime HD camera and i have to restart it in order to fix it..are there anything i can do about this ?

When it's not detected by your Mac, is it still visible in your USB device list in System Profiler? If not, then it might be a hardware defect.
