Facetime & iChat

I think it's great they integrated Facetime from iPhone 4 to work with OS/X. But I can't help but wonder why they didn't just update iChat to work with Facetime. We can already do video chat with it so why create a whole new app when they had one already that could have been modified.

I understand the new Facetime app is in beta status and maybe that is why they didn't upgrade iChat.

So do you think Apple will continue in the future with two apps now (Facetime and iChat) or will they kill off iChat and go only with Facetime?

It would also be nice if they will allow integration of Facetime with Skype and/or Adium too.

By making its own application for Facetime Apple doesn't need to deal with the nuisance of allowing a facetime-like feature for other IM services.
