Hello!

For several device generations now, I've been having an issue with FaceTime where whenever my mic is picking up audio, it mutes the other person so I can't hear them. This is easily replicated by typing on a keyboard, or making any other sound. I go from hearing them to instantly hearing nothing, but seeing them still talking.

What's more interesting about this is that changing the mic mode to "Voice Isolation" helps a bit, as most other sounds are no longer being transmitted. However, if (for example) my partner starts talking to me, it instantly cuts out the audio from the FaceTime call because it is picking up their voice. Voice Isolation also isn't perfect though, and some key strokes will still cut their audio out a bit.

I've tried googling this for years but I never find anyone else having this issue. I can't imagine this is isolated to me though. Has anyone else run into this and found a way to stop it from happening?

Thank you!

I'm pretty sure this is normal. It works on the premise only one person can be talking at once, while other participants are listening, and quiet. It's to prevent feedback howling.
