FaceTime shortcuts from the Home Page

In case you didn't know, Facetime has its own URL, which means that it can be launched from the Home Page, a website, or an email.

The format is facetime://aaabbbcccc

If you have access to the iPhone Configuration Utility, you can quickly build your own shortcuts (aka Web Clips) and apply them.

Hope that helps instead of going through Contacts > your contact > FaceTime or going to Phone > Recent > etc.

The thing is, then it opens Safari, at least for me anyways. It would be cool if it would go right to the FaceTime.

It's facetime:// area code + phone number

It seemed from your post that you were trying to insert the contacts name instead of their iPhone number
