Is it possible to output sound through the normal ear speaker when using Facetime? I never use a headset. Often when I call I'll be out and about and don't want everyone to hear the (whole) conversation.

I don't care that the video is on (though it would be good to be able to turn it off).

Did you try it. I don't see why that wouldn't work. Could be wrong though. I don't do FaceTime, so I'm not absolutely sure.
 
With normal FaceTime, you can only use the speakers but with FaceTime audio, it works! It will start off through the earphone, and you have the option to use your speakers as well just like a voice call. Tested on iPhone 5s.
