anyone think facetime will replace ichat or will it just compliment each other.

nope

I hate facetime. I don't like that you need to use address book. Not everyone uses address book. I had to waste time making a contact just to do facetime with one person.

At first I was like, "ummmmmm....what the heck, how do I add contacts?!!" Then I read the help menu and got disappointed when it stated that it works with the address book.

So disappointed. I HONESTLY thought that apple should have made facetime on iPhone HD compatible with iChat video chat. That would be sick. Facetime is basically iChat video chat anyway. I mean if you're on a mac, ya' got iChat, don't you? I don't know why they even made facetime on the mac.

I stated in another thread that apple is going downhill with their software, and this is definately one of them.

One last thing, facetime REQUIRES 10.6.4 which I think is sooooooooooo stupid.

I bet the main reason for Facetime not being integrated into iChat is that iChat is in the core of OS X. They would have to have new APIs/ all this other techinical crap. That's why Apple doesn't give new major releases for Mail, iChat, Finder, iCal and others between OS X releases.

I hope Lion integrates iChat and Facetime. The only reason I could see it not is the name "Facetime" will be more recognizable.

I'm guessing that it will replace iChat. Once Lion is released iChat will probably go away and facetime will have all of its features intigrated into it.

Why would facetime replace iChat unless facetime is going to have chat (text) capabilities like iChat and all those services (AIM, Yahoo, etc).

I really don't understand why there need to be 2 different apps for video calling and why they didn't integrate it into iChat.

Seems inconsistent and not simplifying things.

FaceTime will get integrated into iChat for 10.7 - stay on 10.6 and it'll be a separate app.

"iChat with FaceTime video calling" will be one of the 150 great new features of Lion. It's all about marketing.

I think they will integrate it into iChat, but more people know what facetime is so they will probably re-brand iChat as facetime.

As someone said before, Apple should have brought out iChat for the iPhone LONG ago. I love iChat for its simplicity and taking a look at Facetime for Mac, just ruins this. Facetime for Mac looks horrible and is almost never open on mine. I'd rather Apple had iChat with integrated Facetime contact list.

ok i do agree with you there that you need to go on long and add a contact just to Facetime with someone, but your just forgetting one thing... its still in Beta testing mode...!

Facetime will more than likely be integrated into iChat. Either that or iChat will be integrated into Facetime. I also think there will be a version of Facetime for Windows at some point.
