Is it possible for the iPhone to use a facial recognition app to unlock the phone or something similar?

I think it would be pretty cool if that were possible. I know I used a Windows based laptop that had that as an unlocking feature...just wondering.

Thanks.

Possible? = YES, you got all you need, camera + uController.

Can you do it reliable? Doubt it.

The front facing camera is VGA resolution, you would need a higher res cam to do it reliable, also the amount of power require to match a face it will take the A4 processor a few minutes. (I work on biometrics equipment, a fingerprint match on an 300Mhz ARM9 takes about 10 Secs, on a one to many match). For a face matching it will take a few minutes. Not really useaful IMO.
