So... my friend just took delivery of a brand new i4 today and I wanted to know if it is possible to get to the homescreen without any itunes intervention?
The reason being is it may be on ios4 or 4.0.1 so the possibility of JB'ing is still available.
I did some googling but got no real answer!!!

Cos I believe itunes immediately checks the firmware version prior to first boot forcing update before it will activate right?

Any ideas greatly appreciated!!!!

Unless they changed it in Itunes 10, you should be able to plug it in and activate it without having to force update

a brand new phone delivered today having 4.0.1 is soooooooo unlikely.

if its past 4.0.1 just sit tight, 4.1 jb should be here before too long.

No, you cant get to the homescreen without activating it and there is no hactivation available yet for the i4.
And no, itunes will not force you to update it. It might give you a message that a new firmware is out but you dont have to accept it. You can hit cancell.

Thanks for the replies, I will see what its on when he brings it round, I thought it might be on the older firmware cos I am in the uk and I know the phone companies dont get the stock really fast so who knows.

As for the 4.1 jailbreak, I cant see it comin out quite so fast either, but we all live in hope!!!

It you somehow do get lucky and get 4.0.1, I'm pretty sure it won't force you to update before activation.

I got my 4 last week with 4.0.1 on it but it was a 32gb one which dont sell too quick so they might have old stock if it was 32gb. Fingers crossed for him
