If your phone is factory unlocked with the version right before iOS 6.0 (iOS 5.x.x)... will you still have the unlock when you update?

It should. There are a lot of Posts/threads confirming it. I'm actually trying to find a thread on here that talks about iOS 6 on a T-Mobile (factory unlocked) iPhone 4 and if any problems were found.

Yes. Definitely. When you activate your phone, the UDID is checked against Apple's database to see if it's unlocked or not. That doesn't depend on what version of iOS you have.
