I have been trying to get a general idea of how much it would cost to have apple replace a failed HD. I purchase the 20' iMac in 2008 and the HD has failed. I believe at the time it has a 500 or 700mb hard drive.
Any idea or $ amount?

Last week I bring my iMac 27" late 2009 for a HD replacement covered by the replacement program for the faulty 1TB Seagates.

Although the change is covered by Apple, and totally free, they give me an invoice with the cost of the change and was 170€ for the HD + 30€ for the work + taxes = 250€. Considering that one of these HD cost about 50€ on any hardware distributor is a total ripoff.

Have you considered doing it yourself?

sure, I considered it but would like for a professional to do it! I just purchased the 3.9 27" as a replacement and will sell the old one as soon as I get it repaired.
