I ran Tech tool Pro Version 5.0.6 (Build 4594) System Check on my iMac last night and the Hard drive failed the SMART test.
Here's the thing, when I insert Disc 2 and run the MAC HARDWARE TEST, everything shows NORMAL.
When I insert Disc 1 and launch DISK UTILITY, the SMART test is verified
When I do the same in Disk utility when the operating system is running, everything is normal.
When I go into disk utility and get the INFO from the Hard drive, it shows SMART test as Verified
I have contacted Applecare and the mac man is coming out tomorrow,
Anyone had anything similar? Is this Hard drive about to go BOOM!!?
Who should I believe? Mac man or TTP?
I have performed this check periodically over the last 5 months and now when looking at the logs the HARDWARE EEC RECOVERED (195) line has been getting progressively worse leading to the eventual test failure ...see failure log pic below.. Note: temp changes always been fail...never noticed it as up until now the check has always been a Pass.
