failing speaker on iphone?

The speaker on my 1st gen iphone has recently started to exhibit an odd sound.... much like a blown speaker. When you play thru it, it has a constant buzz to all sounds. The odd part is, this is inconsistent! Sometimes the speaker sounds fine, others - it does not.

Oddly, this mostly happens when I connect and it starts to sync. I hardly ever utilize the speaker (meaning: I haven't blown it thru cranked tunes)...'cept for game sounds.

Has anyone else noticed this?
