fake unofficial lightning cables charge?

I heard the fakes won't charge as well. Is this true? I wouldn't have thought so as it either charges or doesn't. The current comes from the wall and the cable is just the conduit...

I have a cheap one off eBay, no issues at all.

I have several of these. Some are not as well made as the others but they all work. All were very inexpensive. Can't tell any difference in charging time between these and the original one.

The ones that are not faulty charge fine.
