I have not received my watch yet but should by next Monday. The biggest reason for me buying S4 is the fall Detection feature. I am 44 however this feature will benefit me in a tremendous way. I broke my back while serving and the damage is pretty extensive. I walk either with a cane or walker. I have severe nerve damage which causes me to fall several times a week. My wife works and I am home alone. I have fallen and knocked myself out a few times over the last couple of years. To be able to send an alert to her and family is a game changer for us.
I am also upgrading from a S0 so there is the benefit of it being faster too.

First, thanks for you service! Second, I'm upgrading for the same reason. Not as young or with the issues you suffer but falling is a real concern. The one thing to remember is that because you're not 65 you'll need to enable this feature as it's off by default below that age.

Thank you it was my pleasure and honor. It will enable this as soon as I pair it to my phone. I went with SS this time too. I cracked the screen last week on S0 after taking a hard fall. Maybe the sapphire screen won’t crack as easy.

Unfortunately the sapphire screen is less resistant to impact and shattering due to its increased hardness and resistance to scratching.

Sorry to hear about your injury, btw. In which branch did you serve?

I served in the Army.
It looks like I made the wrong choice about the sapphire then. AppleCare is in my future as soon as it arrives.

I'd skip the AppleCare and just return it. Save yourself a couple hundred bucks and get the aluminum model (if the main deciding factor is fall resistance).

I’m getting so worried about how scratch prone is the Alumninum screen. Still haven’t received mine but still...

I've had three aluminum watches over the years and two of the three were scratched. The third I only had for a few weeks before getting my Series 4.

I’ve never had a sapphire crystal scratch or shatter. I own many watches and some of them have taken some nasty spills. Even the AW sapphire crystal I have yet to scratch or shatter. I’ve had the Black SS model and haven’t even scratched the paint off. It’s a tough watch. Not saying it can’t happen, but from my experience it’s not easy to do.
