Fall Detection

I'm thinking of getting the Apple Watch SE for a senior family member for the fall detection. From what I read, it has to first notify emergency services followed by the emergency contact (family, etc) set by the user. Is this correct or can I set it up so it only contact the emergency contact only?

Since the person will most likely not use the functions on the watch, should I get the GPS or Cellular version? This person does use iPhone, but I'm afraid the phone may not necessarily be nearby if a fall does occur.

As far as I am aware, there is no way to prevent it from connecting EMS. You don't need the cellular version.

I just purchased the series 8 for my dad for the fall detection as well.

get cellular, don't need to activate as you can call 911 in the US without an active plan
