I am currently on a family plan with 3 other phones. I will be the only one getting an iPhone 3G. Is there a price that I would pay just for the data, or do I have to select one of the iPhone 3G plans to share with the other non-iPhones.

I remember seeing this number on the 2G iPhone, but could not find the number on the rates released today.

I went into an at&t store today and they said their would be a data plan only to use with family plans, just like the original phone. They thought it would be $30.

Thank you for taking the time to e-mail AT&T. I understand that you
check if you will be required to change your rate plan when you purchase
your 3G iPhone. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused,
and I am happy to help you with your inquiry.

Mr. ..., you will not be required to change your voice plan to
upgrade to a 3G iPhone. You will be able to keep your service active on
the Family 550 plan. There will be a $30.00 per month 3G iPhone
Unlimited Data (Email-Web) plan added to each line that activates a 3G
iPhone.

Thanks for the info, that is what was looking for.

Now if my family plan has say 1000 text with it, does this 30 dollars include that or would I have to pay the 5 dollars for 200 or whatever it is?

The $30 is only for the iPhone 3G data... you'll still be able to use whatever text allowances you have on your FamilyTalk plan.

if these texts are for a specific line, then it will not be shared. i just recommend getting the unlimited text plan.
