I never could get Apple to merge AppleIDs.

Could I just list my alter ego as part of my "family" to solve the problem?

Also, what about AppleIDs from other countries? A family member got a Mac in the UK and that has also caused issues, since he gets sent to the UK Apple Store, which sometimes doesn't have stuff we in the USA have. How does Family Sharing deal with that?

Well Family sharing just allows you to access their files... problem here is that it won't share cloud files, so you'd have to download it.

Doing this would at least allow you to download apps that you had purchased with your previous apple ID (Assuming the apps support family sharing. Most do), however, those apps would still be tied to the original apple ID. If you ever remove it from your 'family' then your access to those apps will go away. There is also a limit of 6 accounts in each 'family', so doing this would tie up one of your 6 available slots. Depending on how many people you wanted to add, this may or may not be a problem.

I don't know the answer to the international question.
