Family sharing pros and cons?

Family sharing looks confusing and annoying to setup. Is there any downsides to using it? or is it just my perception.

currently I just use the same itunes ID for purchases with family members then we use our own icloud ID for backups. seems much easier and straightforward. I know there you cant share with apple music unless you setup the family share. but that is not an issue for me.

For iTunes and app purchases it looks like its 10 devices max either way family sharing or no sharing.

Anybody have any experiences with family sharing?
