I haven't used family sharing but am wondering if I am missing out on functionality. What I do is sign onto my daughters and girlfriends devices (iMac, iPhone (2) and iPad). They use their own Apple ID for iCloud etc., but mine is used for iTunes (Apple Music) and Apps. We all share the same iTunes library. In addition, I am signed into iTunes and Apps on my MBP, iPhone and iPad. Somehow all the libraries are synched.

Wondering if Family sharing would be a better option or way to do this?

For sure. Downside is you'd have to move from a regular Apple Music $10 sub to the $15 family sub, but you'd all have your own libraries and access to any apps any connected account has paid for.
