Escoteric, and maybe I should just do the free trial, but has anyone done this on their cellular Apple Watch?

It looks like the intent is to enable a cellular watch with no matching phone, but I'm thinking of the case where I'm on prepaid, so cannot so far signup my watch and my main number on my iPhone (using Digits/Numbersync, etc).

I'm thinking more for emergency calling ability if my phone is not available. And cheaper than going back to T-Mobile and paying $80/month for the phone/watch.

Never mind. I found some people who have tried it on reddit, and you can't activate your own watch on this plan, only a family member's watch.

You can activate your own watch but you would need to set it up using Family setup and the features are limited. The trick is to find a carrier that would support the watch on a cellular plan.

Family Setup carriers: https://www.apple.com/watch/cellular/

Family Setup Feature and Apps Availability:

Health and fitness features:
  • High and low heart rate notifications are available for users 13 and older.
  • Fall detection is available for users 18 and older.
  • Users under the age of 13 can use move minutes, rather than active calories, for their Move goal in the Activity app.
Apple Pay features:
  • Apple Cash Family is available to users under the age of 18, allowing them to make purchases and send and receive money in Messages with Apple Pay (United States only).
  • Apple Pay using a credit, debit, or transit card in the Wallet app is not available with Family Setup.
The following features and apps are not available: irregular heart rhythm notifications, ECG, Cycle Tracking, Sleep, Blood Oxygen, Podcasts, Remote, News, Home, and Shortcuts.
