I thought this would be a fun thread.

What famous residents live in your city/town? You can look this up on Wikipedia or maybe you just know. Obviously if you live somewhere such as New York City it won't be as interesting because zillions of people live there.

In my town (population ~13,000):

Rebecca Lobo, former WNBA player, played for UCONN
(her dad was my track coach and her mom was my middle school guidance counselor)

Byron Kilbourn, surveyor and politician, helped found Milwaukee supposidly

Garrett Lucash, figure skater

Jesse Camp, MTV VJ Contest Winner
(His mom was my principal in elementary school, she was a very nice lady, and very strict too, its amazing how her kid turned out, she never talks about him, I don't think she's very proud of him. And no he was not homeless, his parents house is right next to my friends house and his mom has a volvo and he went to private school. Actually they just sold their house and they're moving to Cape Cod)

Ones I've actually seen, as in yards away, or bumped into:

• Richard E. Grant
• Bob Geldof
• Jerry Hall
• Jose Mourinho (local hero ;) )
• Gordon Brown, our new PM

Cincinnati, Ohio- Pete Rose, Ken Griffey Jr, George Clooney, Ted Turner, Peter Frampton, Shaun Alexander...and 98 Degrees, I know, you are all jealous.

Most of them don't live here, so I did famous people from Cincinnati...Frampton, Griffey and Pete Rose all still live here, or own property

Living in LA I did constantly (I'm too lazy to write out a list) but now that I'm living in London I haven't seen anyone famous here yet.

(recently) e saw Bill Bailey in Hammersmith though.

Vancouver :

People I have actually seen:
Sarah McLachan
Pam Anderson
william Gibson - author ( saw at local bookshop)
Swollen Members - *ssholes in real life.
Matthew Good - see above
Bif Naked
Joe Average - artist
David Suzuki- his daughter went to same high school as me.

Let's see... Jack LaLanne is still kickin' around this area. There's a few former pro-sport types that are rumored to have houses in the area.

I guess famous is as famous does. There are some really good vintners around, but they aren't really famous outside wine circles. Same goes for some of the professors who specialize in some obscure technical field.

Honestly I don't really care much for celebrity spotting. I figure even if I do spot one, they'd rather just be left alone.

I'm in Montreal, Canada where if you're really famous (like Celine Dion, Leonard Cohen, or the entire Cirque du Soleil troupe) you've already left. But I lived in the same building as the late Premier of Quebec (Levesque), and near the residence of the late Prime Minister of Canada (Trudeau). Saw them both frequently, especially Trudeau. My neighbor is close friends with the former PM Mulroney, so got to see him many times.

Used to live in NY. Now that would take too much time to write about :)

There are quite a few more famous types from these parts, but a lot of them moved away when fame beckoned. Ah well.

Currently living it large in Hull (or at least in the nearby villages) are...

Former England international footballer Nick 'Nicky' Barmby, popular soccer hardman Dean Windass, the Deputy Prime Minister (until two days ago, that is) John Prescott, chicken impersonating funnyman Norman Collier, top professional poker player Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott, just-been-knocked-out-of-Wimbledon British tennis number one Katie O'Brien, Big Brother also-ran Dan Bryan, music types Fila Brazillia, playwright John Godber, Chris de Burgh imitating Stars In Their Eyes Champion of Champions Ian Moor and a couple of members of the Beautiful South. Plus some rugby players but we'll say no more about them.

Quite an eclectic mix, I'm sure you'll agree. :)

I live in NYC so lots of famous people. On a personal note

Parents went to school and were friendly with Simon & Garfunkel.
Jose Reyes of the NY Mets was my neighbor for 2 years.
Endy Chavez of the NY Mets is now my neighbor.

well... Manchester has too many so lets not bother.

Saddleworth was birthplace of a few famous folk, probably not so much on a global scale. Like that Wrigley chap. Famous folk tend to move here than be born here.

My hometown? Not sure what that is - where I spent most of my youth or where I was born.

Where I live now? According to Wikipedia, Biz Markie is the only famous person living here. And, I don't know if I would call him famous. Ah, the joys of living in Laurel, MD. But, Marty Friedman went to HS here - not that he's famous either. I guess a short stint by Ike and family is all they get.

Edit: Well, how about that - I was reading the wiki, and remember Gov. George Wallace? When he got shot and paralyzed, it happened just down the street from where I live. I think you're pretty likely to get shot there today....

Gary Kemp, John Hurt and Griff Rhys-Jones all live just down the street, let alone having to go any further :D

Yeah, as BV said, London is a bit over-celebbed. I see Ricky Gervais around a lot too so he's obviously quite local.

nothing to note, although there are rumors that i'm near the guy who used to play tarzan in the movies (only a rumor though).

i did go to the same high school as alan trammell (years later, however).

royal oak, michigan

carmella decesare lives here with Jeff Garcia and Kid rock might.

George Galloway, although he may have moved by now.

As Streatham was voted the worst High Street in the UK and we also have a major gun crime problem we tend to be lacking in famous residents. :D

Those famous people born here move away as soon as possible, even the thick ones like Naomi Campbell!

Aphex Twin lives in the Gower, which surrounds Swansea.

Rich.

Is it true that he lives in a former bank? Or is it just his studio?

My town:
Tim White (former WWE ref, apparently did a bunch of segments where he tried to kill himself)
Rocco Baldelli
Peter and Bobby Farrelly, but I'm not sure if they still live here.
Charlie Weiss (former Patriots' offensive coordinator, current Notre Dame football head coach, probably left town when he left the Pats)

In my tiny (~3000 ppl) Connecticut town we have some pretty famous people...

Meryl Streep
I checked books out for her when I worked in the library in town. She came in a number of times to look for books.

Kevin Bacon
Came to my house trick or treating with his kids. He was on the porch while my mom and I gave his kids candy. Came into the café/ice cream shop I work at and left immediately when I told him we didn't have frozen yogurt. :p

Whoopi Goldberg
Lived around here on and off for a while. I used to see her huge stretch limo driving around. Saw her around a couple of times.

Michael J. Fox
Lives in a very close neighboring town.

James Taylor
Lived in another nearby town for quite a long time not long ago.

I'd say that's not bad for a small rural town. :D

edit: oh and if you want to count it, a lot of pretty famous people went to my high school in town, which means they did live here for a while. Most of the Ford family, the Mars family, Mr. Pillsbury, others.

I heard rumors like last summer Kevin Bacon lived in East Granby (CT), I don't thin I believe that though.
