I have a 1.8/80GB Macbook Air that I got last month. When the fan is running at full speed I can hear some kind of grinding noise like the fan is rubbing against something. If you tilt the actual machine, the noises go in and out.

Anybody else have this issue?

From your description, it might be a bad bearing. If so, the fan needs to be replaced. :(

I've the same MBA spec, and had the same problem as you. Apple replaced the fan. Take it in.

I have the SSD version and when you start up I hear something similar but seems to stop basically right after its up to the 2500 rpm.

Maybe my fan is a bit dodgy as well.

I had this exact same problem when my fans reached 6500rpm +. Apple replaced my entire MBA. And I returned that MBA to see what the new MacBooks bring.
