Hey guys, i am a long time browser of the forum but this is my first post.

I have a 2011 white macbook that I got in January of last year and for the most part it worked nicely. But recently it has started making noise from the fan (it is no longer a silent fan) i believe this is due to the new carpets we have had laid and various members of my family borrow my mac and have used it on the floor. I have tried cleaning the fans but they dont seem to have anything in them therefore i believe the fan should be changed, something I may do at a later date.

My main question here comes with some noise I have noticed from the HDD at a similar time. I can here a slight noise thats hard to describe but sounds almost like a buzzing or rattling sound, if i lay my hand on the hdd whilst typing i can no longer hear it, I was wondering whether formatting my HDD could solve this problem? Or whether the noise isn't something to worry about?

Sorry if i have been vague but any help here will do, do you think I should format it anyway just to give it a go? all my data is on a portable HDD anyway

Thank You
