Hi,

I will upgrade to the 2018 MBP as i need the 32GB for sure.

I'm on a 2015 MBP and one thing that has always bugged me is the fans and heat. Fans on a lot of time even when i don't think the load is that great - right now, doing nothing apart from being on this site and the temp is 60 ish. If running a VM in the back and CPU on 25% perhaps then we'd be at 80/90 with fans going max.

So my question for those that have the 2018 are

1. Is there any real difference between the temps of the i9 and i7 on a practical level?
2. What is the normal operating temp and at what temp do the fans go onto max?

cheers
Paul

If you noticed many of the threads about the 2018 MBP, it runs hot.

Depending on the task yes, but there are benchmarks that show that i7 can be faster then the i9

I don't know the details, but I would assume they're no different then the 2015 model. Intel throttles the CPU at 100c, that hasn't changed, so the fans will ramp up fairly quickly when you get closer to that temp.

I've seen my MBP ramp right up into the 90s quite easily, I've sine throttled the cpu myself via the Volta app, which allows me to limit the wattage. It slows the CPU down a bit, but provides a better thermal profile.
