Well, the topic says it all. I have 512MB memory in my MacBook. And, I normally have iTunes, iChat, windows open. Can it be slowing down becuase I barely have any memory?

It's the graphics card (or lack of one, that is). I got a 2 Ghz. processor and 2 GB of RAM. When I play demanding games, the fan runs nonstop for hours on end.

Yeah, I wont play games on a MacBook ever. I'm going to put 2 gigs in it once I order it.

Two gigs is a world of difference from 512. I immediately noticed the difference from 1->2 gigs, so yours should be much more dramatic. My fan still shoots up pretty fast sometimes, but I'd say i can't even hear it about 90% of the time. Good luck :)

make sure you don't have anything in your print que. i know this sounds silly but i couldn't find out why my wife's macbook with 2 gig's fan wouldn't turn off. they figured it out at the genius bar.
