Hi,
Can someone speak authoritatively on these topics:
So how is the fan noise in the original vs the nvidia-based air?
I don't care about performance, just fan noise. The 1st gen is way cheaper, and if it's just as quiet as the 2nd gen, then I might as well get the 1st gen. But if the 2nd gen never sees its fan go to 6200 rpm while surfing, emailing, and watching hulu, i'll be fine. I'd expect it to ramp up to 6000 for anything above 720p video.
I read that one can use smcfancontrol2 to set the min fan speed to 3150 rpm, which he says delays the onset of the fans ramping up, and one can also undervolt to prevent the fans from ramping up. Is this a reproducible experience for most of you guys who have tried it? Is this more necessary for gen 1 vs gen 2 macbook airs?
