So I got home today and found my Late 2009 iMac making some weird fan noise. It sounds like a bearing needs lubed or something. The noise stay constant as far as I can tell but I also haven't tried to tax the machine at all. The noise only goes away when I shut down the computer (stays constant even when I restart it or put it to sleep)
According to iStat the optical drive fan is spinning about 1000RPM, the HDD fan is 1100RPM and the CPU fan is 950RPM.
Is is a normal problem and any chance of fixing this without cracking open the iMac?
I was contemplating opening it up to put a SSD in the CD drive slot but have been worry about messing up some of the thin wires that connect the screen to the logic board. Any help or ideas about how to fix the current fan problem would be appreciated.
