On a Power PC G5, dual 2 GHz Mac, running Mac OSX Version 10.5.4, I have occasionally heard the fan on the CPU take off at full speed as if I were burning a CD or DVD. At the time this happened, the computer had been asleep and idle. When I attempt to take over the computer, the computer fails to respond and the only way to get control is to power the beast down and restart. No damage or changes were ever noted but it is unknown to me what may have caused it to happen.
It is as if aliens have taken over and commanded the hardware.
I checked my sharing options under the Apple under System Preferences and found nothing selected which would allow my computer to be shared by anyone else. This may be naive! I also clicked on the "lock" this time in the event that some wizard can get in externally and play games. This may be naive too!
I am using a DSL modem and it is on when this is happening. The only bowser I use is Safari.
Any clues?
