Hi All

Not a problem just a quick question.

Do you use a third party fan control speed program or just let your Mac Pro
sort itself out in the fan department ?

That's all....

Back in the days when the 2009 Pro had the sound issue, I used SMC fan control to increase the fan speed.

After Apple patched it I deleted SMC fan control. The Pro does just fine with managing itself. There is absolutely no need to mess around with the fan speeds.

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

Can I ask how hard it is to just say what you do ?

I use fan control to keep the fan speeds at the minimum, for noise management. Once it starts to render video, it speeds up quicker than the stock management, per my settings. I like it, but I'd agree it's not necessary.

With my old 2006 Mac Pro, I used SMC all the time (with 11GB)....just to bump up the fans a little (I think to 935rpm). Those FB-DIMMS are monsters and get hot FAST.

Just got my 2010 2.8 Quad and put 16GB of OWC in it.....can't believe how cool it runs normally. I didn't even install SMC yet. I don't do enough on a regular basis to need it anymore.

I keep mine at default.

Not everyone owns a Mac Pro, many people are guests, and search engine bots counts as views too ;)

No custom fan control here. No reason to do it. Why mess with something that works?
