I'm running at mid-09 15" MBP with 4 gigs of RAM and 10.6.6.

I locked my computer earlier today with fast user switching to step away for a little bit, and I left my Wd Elements 1 TB USB drive connected.

I came back, and before I logged back in I noticed that the fans were really going fast. When I got back in performance was sluggish, Time Machine was slow backing up, and typing was really slow.

I opened up Activity Monitor, and I saw mount_hfs and syslogd eating up a ton of resources. I tried to quit both with no luck, and then I unplugged my USB drive. Things stayed bad, and the only way I could stop it all was to restart completely.

Here's the Activity Monitor log attached. Anyone had similar experience? Is there something I should worry about because of this? Thanks for any help!
