I've got a mid-2009 15" macbook pro, and when i first got it I absolutely loved how cool it would stay when on my lap, and in general. Now, for whatever reason, the past 4 or 5 months, it seems like it is getting much hotter. Just from being plugged into the power adapter, or having my Apogee Duet plugged in listening to music, the left side and the left/center bottom will be extremely hot to the touch, sometimes too hot for my lap. No CPU load, just being plugged in (charged or charging).

I installed SMC Fan controller to see what was up. I played a youtube video (we all know the wonderful Flash player will kick up the CPU - both cores were at 50%) and it got up to 180 F before the fans jumped above the 2000RPM. They went to a whopping 2400 RPM. It became unbearable to keep in my lap. I pushed the fans up to 4000 RPM and left them there. Now, without any load on the CPU, it the temp is about 110 F, much nicer.

Is anyone else seeing this issue? Does anyone know of a fix or should I just bring it into the apple store?
