So my Macbook pro (mid 2012) has started running fans constantly on startup. This started after using a faulty charger. The cable has started to split exposing the wire inside. When using Mac the exposed wire touched the side and caused Mac to shut off immediately. I didn't initially realise this is what caused it so turned it back on (was working fine) and reconnect charger and the same thing happened again!

Now, I've read about resting SMC, which I hope will help, but I'm going to purchase new charger before I try to fix it. Do people think that will fix it? Or have I done some permanent, unfixable damage to Mac?

Thanks,

Matt
