Fans with dual monitors

I know there are lots of threads on fans being on but is it normal on a 2016 MBP that the fans are at full blast when using a dual monitor setup? When disconnected, the fans drop back down to a normal speed (quiet). I expect this is normal since the GPU is working overtime, but wanted to double check. Thanks.
