Looking to create fantasy based maps. Need a software that will offer topographical icons and/or other. Any thoughts?

Are you just printing them out? How about mind-mapping software? It's got pretty good "drop anywhere" kind of features and there are a lot of icons out there for them. I think the freeware version is called free mind???

I'm going to proffer a guess that that has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with what he wants, seeing as he's talking about REAL maps.

For the Mac? There's nothing specific to the task. On the PC, ProFantasy produces a number of software programs for fantasy map mapmaking.

GIMP however can produce pretty good results. Here are two threads over at the Cartographer's Guild that will help you:
