Why do you need a keyboard for the watch?

The purpose of the watch is to be glanceable notifications and quick replies in Messages, just take a look at what will be coming in the App Store http://www.apple.com/watch/app-store-apps/, none of those apps require text input. If you don't want to dictate a location in Maps, take your phone out, look up the location using the keyboard on your iPhone then send the directions to your watch using Hand Off.

Need to type a long message in Messages, take out your phone.

A Bluetooth keyboard would do exactly what you just said remove the need for a phone and have a more minimal effect on the pocket of consumer

Without the iPhone all you have left is a watch that can play music and view some photos. You might want to research a bit more just how the Apple Watch works because I'm not entirely sure you understand how essential the iPhone is.

So in an attempt to eliminate an object in your pocket your solution is to replace is with another object?

Lol... a Bluetooth keyboard is more compact & easy to carry around than an iPhone (that also needs to be present, if you want to actually send any of the text you're typing)?
Not sure visualization is your strong suit! =P

So..just trying to imagine the logistics here...but if the watch is on your wrist...a thumb typing keyboard means your watch is now facing away from you. Maybe one that uses one hand? Even if it was a fold out qwerty board it is still an awkward angle.

I don't think it will even allow pairing, just because it doesn't really make since if you have your iPhone in your pocket.
