Just got my 17 Pro max and setting it up as we speak. I’ve had the 14 pro max since it launched and even though I’m very excited to upgrade I’m gonna miss my older phone. Does anyone ever feel like that when you get a new device? What device are yall upgrading from?

I'm making the exact same transition.
I kinda know what you mean about feeling a little sentimental. It's been 3 years with the 14 PM. It may sound silly, but I can't help but think of some of the places I've been with it and things I've done. Our phones are almost like little companions that are always by our sides these days.

I also went from the 14PM to the 17PM. The 14 served me well, but I’m loving the 17 so far. I only missed a couple of old phones: I had a Product RED iPhone (can’t remember the model), and the white 4S, that I had a harder time letting go. That was a beautiful phone, but I sold it to a coworker. I kept a later white/silver, but all others went the trade-in route.

Because I don’t upgrade every year, I always appreciate the advances in tech and don’t really mind letting the old phone go.

Couldn't agree more

For sure. One thing I'm not going to miss is the lightning port and cable. Mine was not charging properly the last 6 months so I had to use wireless charging which was fine but I'm happy to move on from that.

I did the same. 14PM to 17PM. But after only half a day with the phone I realized this phone really doesn't do anything for me over the 14PM. So I'm really close to initiating a return and going back to the 14PM for at least another year.
The only feature I really want in this phone is USB-C. Everything else is nice on paper but for my use case just isn't making any real life difference over my 14PM.

Enjoy your new 17PM, it is surely a great phone. And if some of the new features are useful to you then I think it is a nice upgrade. Who knows, maybe I will change my mind today and just keep it.

I was toying with the idea of upgrading my 14PM yesterday but, having slept on it, I am feeling the way you are feeling. My 14PM still feels fast and fresh to me, even on iOS 26. I just checked my battery and it’s at 85%, not that I’ve ever noticed. It does everything I need it to do on a daily basis. I have decided to keep it a couple years longer and save myself £1500!

Marketing can be powerful and Apple are very good at it. I think it’s healthy to regularly stick two fingers up at the latest and greatest and not be suckered in with all the hype. I refuse to be influenced! 🤣

I totally feel you. Physically 14 Pro max is as mint as it was day 1, the only issue I have is sometimes it doesn’t charge with the lightning cable and so I have to use MagSafe all the time which is kinda annoying. If the charging port was usb c I’d probably keep the 14 pro max for another year or 2. Also I much prefer the build quality and color of the 14PM, stainless steel over aluminum all day.
