Farfinder remote access users -- need help getting it running properly

I've been trying out Farfinder to remotely access my mac -- it's truly fantastic...as long as I'm within my own home wifi network. Not very useful. Unfortunately, I'm on a university network and have been unable to access my computer from outside the network. Farfinder says that my computer isn't visible on the internet and I've tried various different ports without success.

I don't know much about ports and port-forwarding, but I suspect there must be some way to get around this. Could somebody guide me where to begin troubleshooting?
