I'm a developer who has a lot of different user-IDs on this (Snow Leopard 10.6.7) machine. For one of those user-IDs, although the "Fast User Switching" drop-down menu appears as normal, it is not possible to successfully switch to any other user. You pull down the menu, and it looks right (proper checkboxes and so on), and you make your choice and ... nothing happens. (However, you can switch to "Login Window..." that selection, and "Account Preferences," does work. From there, switch to whomever you want to.)

For all other users on this machine, the "Fast User Switching" drop-down works normally.

(Naturally, none of these IDs, save one, are administrators.)

Again ... I'm a (web) developer, and I do lots of off-the-wall things on this development box, although I don't do any Apple development. So... I'm not really surprised at something like this ... but I would like to know how it happened (i.e. where is this setting stored, and howcum it affects only one userid?). And of course, how do I fix it.

Clarification: you can switch to this user without difficulty. But when you are logged-on as this user, the "other user-ID" choices simply do not do anything at all.
