I suddenly can't switch to other accounts from my main admin account. I can select their name from the top right drop-down but then nothing happens.

It works for a while after restarting, then stops again.

The only workaround is to select "lock screen" under the Apple menu and go from there. The other accounts on my machine don't have this problem.

macOS 10.14.6, iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2019)

It maybe related to a third party app that you have running when you login to your account. Open System Preferences→Users & Groups→<your user name>, remove all items listed. Move all files in <your user account>/Library/LaunchAgents to your Desktop/LaunchAgents folder, move all files in <your user account>/Library/LaunchAgents to the trash and empty the trash. Restart the computer. Login to your user account and try fast user switching. If that works then start adding back in items and files until you identify which piece of software is causing the issue in your account.

Thanks for the tip, I first noticed it when troubleshooting Adobe launch agents so there could be a link. Will give that a shot.

(Also, I neglected to mention I can't access the login screen either, only the lock screen)

The other option would be to recreate your user account from scratch. Might be easier starting from that point and build it up and see when the problem happens.
