I have an 'old' (non unibody) MBP with the following (very good) specs:

4gb RAM, 2.5 GHz CPU.

The machine is great and nice and fast for everything else, but takes up to a few seconds to render RAW files in Aperture, which interrupts my workflow.

I assume that CPU speed and graphics card are the driving factors in this?

I am interested in upgrading but I guess that going to 2.8Hz (or even 3.0) is not likely to make a perceptible difference and I should probably wait another few months for even better processors. Or would the dedicated graphics in the uMBP also make a big difference?

Interested to hear your views. I am processing D700 files which are >10mb in size.

Thanks!

Hooly.

It won't double your time, but I think you might get a 20-30% increase in speed by bumping up to 3GHz. 8GB of RAM can't hurt either.

let me know about your experiences. I have D70s and want to buy D700 after summer :)

I would say wait until they come out with quad cores in a few years and/or Snow Leopard in a few months. Is a few seconds really that interruptive?
